Updates and the upcoming September 6th session.

Hello! It’s almost September! Lots to talk about.
Well, hello there! Here’s a quick video update and notes on all of those subjects below!

Most important piece of businesses: Our next session starts on September 6th. It will be the last session of the year, so - if you want to get involved — now is the time!
In case you missed it, we now have 3 payment options to lower the barrier of entry. Karen can tell you all about it.
Session updates!
What are the students doing!
March/alpha-one
The alpha-one session is working on a real client project right now. We’ll have to keep the client a secret for now. It combines all of their skills and experience from the course so far. Research, strategy, project planning, content hierarchy, content modeling for the CMS, visual language - and of course: HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript too.
Student spotlight: Tommy’s portfolio website is looking awesome. We love the little “sticky” header details.
June/alpha-two
The alpha-two session has just completed their “Super Ultra Responsive Layout Challenge.” What a fun one. We really packed a lot into those two weeks. If you’re trying to learn 2 years worth of stuff in 6 months, you’re going to have to really focus.
Student spotlight: See how differently Brian and Savannah visually treated their layout challenge. We’re super impressed. And we’ve barely begun!
Updates to the course
We told you that this thing is going to get better and better. Here are some new additions:
Study Hall
We’re in the process of adding a parallel self-study set of resources for each section. Students can casually check back to the past few lessons as they go. It includes mini challenges, quiz questions, handy shortcuts, terminology checks and more. It’s also a guide for us teachers to go over like a checklist. If you feel confident about everything in study hall - well, we’re not worried about your success. Adding it to 200+ lessons is going to take a while! so, it’s a work in progress. So far, it looks like this:
New exercise videos
Along with the regular lessons (which include a written article, video and a bunch of stuff) - AND study hall, we’ve also started building out more video supplements. We’re not sure what to call them yet - but people keep saying the “you try it” videos.
Here’s an example below, but basically - they are guided practice videos where you are given prompts - and then you pause it and “try it.” After - we’ll show you what we would have done. Between all of these options, we’ve got your learning style covered.

One more time: Last session of 2021 starts September 6th.
We’re not just talking to you! Tell your friends and family. We need trained designers like we need trained doctors. Seriously.
Pass on the gift of a great education and get a nice thank you for pairing us up too!

Classes that we’re taking
We take lots of classes for research. We’re interested in the subject matter - but we’re also paying attention to all of the various teaching styles.
Right now, Derek is doing the #ship30for30 course for building a writing habit. More on that soon. You can read the daily essays from Derek - and also a mini ship14for14 for PE!
Derek is also excited to do Cassie’s SVG animation workshop! He already has quite a bit of web animation experience - but, we’re always looking for more and as our student’s know - we’re big fans of her work.
Ivy is taking August Dering’s class: People Retouching. That will be a fun one! We just got a new Wacom tablet, so - we look forward to sharing more about photo stuff.
Looks like the link to Bryan's site on CodePen isn't showing! Well, just imagine it's a slick layout for In and Out burger. Maybe he'll move it to the server and we'll update the link.
